Why the Name "Primitive Baptist"?

People are often surprised to learn that a church named "Primitive Baptist" is not backward, archaic and out-of-date.  Since we enjoy all the comforts of modern living, why do we identify ourselves as "Primitive"?

The Primitive Baptist Church holds to the London Baptist Confession of Faith adopted in the late 17th century.  Churches of this faith were planted in the American colonies during the 18th century.  Some of the churches drifted away, but many remained true to the 'first,' Or 'original' doctrine, hence the term 'primitive'.

At Nova Primitive Baptist Church we maintain the simple practice and doctrine of the New Testament, despite changing values and customs around us.  We are a progressive church who holds fast to the ancient faith of Biblical Christianity, and our desire is to grow and go forward in the Lord's service.
